Graduating BFA show.

I recently completed my graduating BFA show. It featured my ceramic work from the Fall of 2001. The show was on display at the McDonough Museum of Art in Youngstown, OH from December 2-16.

The first piece, Reflections, contains roughly 800 ceramic hemispheres. The piece is 20 feet long by 6 feet tall.

The following images contain some of the wheel thrown pieces I created over the course of the year. Some are displayed in shadow boxes, while others are on pedestals.

Systems

I was recently invited to participate in the "Systems" show at the Youngstown Business Incubator. I created this piece, Lucid Dreams, for the show. The installation contains around 200 hand made stoneware ceramic hemispheres. The show will be held from October 20 - November 11 and features work from fifteen local artists including myself.

Summer Pieces

Cone 10 Stoneware Bowl
This is one of the new glaze combinations I have been working on.

Cone 10 Stoneware and Porcelain slip.
I have also began experimenting with plates and porcelain slip.

This is one of my glazes I have been experimenting with for the past few months.

I have recently been exploring the Raku firing process. The following vessels are selected from my most recent Raku firing, where I not only fired the kiln, but removed the vessels on my own for the first time. Overall it was a huge success. The pieces came out very nicely, and I have been getting consistent results.

These pieces are the main focus of my newer works.

Raku Firing

I did a raku firing about two and a half weeks ago. This is a very fascinating process. 3-5 vessels are loaded into the kiln (shown left) and the kiln is ignited. The kiln is watched very closely during the process. The gas and air are turned up two to three times, and then while the pieces are still extremely hot, they are pulled out of the kiln with tongs and placed in small chambers (shown).

This is me reigniting the chamber with one of my vessels in it.

A New Direction

My work has been going in a new direction in all areas, ceramics, printing, and painting. Here are a few of my newer vessels that explore some of my newer ideas.

This is a salt fire piece from May 2011.

A summery of my semester.

These are the pieces that I feel best summarize my spring semester at YSU. These shapes, colors, and techniques were the basis for my experimentation and creation over the past few months.
